The Union Elementary
WISE OWL
September 27, 2013

"Have You Seen the Owl Today?"

Welcome to the Union Elementary Wise Owl!  We hope that you enjoy this new way of learning what's going on at UES!

YESTERDAY'S FIRE DRILL  We had an unexpected Fire Drill yesterday afternoon when one of our electricians accidentally set off the alarm.  The good news is that we did an even better job getting out of the building quickly and safely than we did for our drill last week!  Great job everyone!

PICTURE DAY  Picture Day 2013 was a big success!  Thanks to Pam and Zephyr for putting together a perfect schedule and to the Lifetouch photographers for taking pictures of over 500 people in a friendly and professional manner.  If you didn't have your picture taken, Makeup Day will be in early November.

OPEN HOUSE 2013!  Our Open House last night was a also a big success!  The halls and classrooms were filled with smiling children and their families.  Thanks to all for attending!

THANK YOU!  Hasn't it been nice to have the dumpsters away from the pickup area?  And now, finally, the construction trailer has been moved, freeing up all that extra space on the playground!  Once they were gone, however, there was a big mess left behind.  Someone needed to come to the rescue...

Thank you to Ms. Pines' class for all their hard work cleaning up the playground!
They collected 294 pieces of litter just on the pavement alone!

Please remind your class to be Responsible for making sure litter goes into the garbage cans.

CARES ASSEMBLY!  What a terrific job our PBIS team did organizing our CARES assemblies!  Take a look at these wonderful pictures:

RIDDLE OF THE DAY

Tuesday's riddle:  What loses its head in the morning but gets it back at night?  (Answer:  a pillow!)

Did You Know?  ...that you can print out books on a wide variety of foreign languages at the Kid Link Enchanted Learning?  Check out this terrific French language activity book for early readers here:
